DEAR Editor, – We would like to write in support of the plans for a new visitors’ centre on the banks of the River Ericht.
Blairgowrie is a lovely Perthshire town that is sadly lacking in visitors.
Those who do come tend to stay at the coaching hotels and spend their time visiting other places, with Blairgowrie being used as an overnight base.
Since the closure of Keithbank Mill a few years ago, Blairgowrie has had no visitor attractions and desperately needs this, not only to encourage new visitors to come to the town but also to engage those who already visit.
The increased footfall that this centre will create will help small, local, businesses who have found trade difficult since the move of Tesco to an out-of-town position.
Having been granted the funding for this, we feel it is an exceptional opportunity to put Blairgowrie on the tourist map and – as the second largest town in Perthshire – this is exactly where it should be.
