Rugby: Blairgowrie seniors exit Midlands Regional Bowl competition at Grangemouth

Last Saturday the Blairgowrie senior squad travelled to Grangemouth for their Midlands Regional Bowl second round tie.

With Grangemouth currently near the top of Midlands League II it was going to be a difficult contest for the Blairgowrie lads, made all the more difficult as a number of first team regulars were unavailable for selection mainly due to injuries.

Following a minute’s silence as a mark of respect for all those who have lost their lives in the forces, it was the home side that applied the early pressure from the kick off, scoring three quick tries. Blairgowrie responded with two penalties from Stephen Souter.

The second half proved to be much of the same with the much more experienced Grangemouth back line running in a further four tries and Stephen Souter adding another penalty for Blairgowrie to make the final score Grangemouth 46 Blairgowrie 9.

This was a tough game for the Blairgowrie lads who normally play in Midlands League Division III but competed well for parts of the game.

Team: Timmy Watson, Al Guild, Ryan Walker, Ewen Morrison, Kev Brown, Callum Michie, Will Gibson, Richie Duncan, Russell Edwards, Stephen Souter, Alan Robertson, Peter Duncan, Liam McLaren, Craig Thoms, Stuart Simpson, Leo Grozier, James Buchanan, Charlie Leadbetter, Rory Phillips, Cameron Mitchell.

Following the game man of the match points were awarded as follows; Ewen Morrison and Ryan Walker – 1 point each, Will Gibson -2 points and Richie Duncan – 3 points.

Blairgowrie has topped the ‘West’ section of the Midlands League and now await confirmation of who they will be playing in the second half, which kicks off on Saturday December 1.
