Lib Dems back same-sex marriages

Liberal Democrats have backed a call for same-sex couples to be given the right to marry.

Party activists branded the current system, under which gay people can enter into a civil partnership but cannot get married, as a "discrimination that needs to end".

The Lib Dem Scottish spring conference passed a motion calling on the Scottish Government to open up marriage to same-sex couples.
