NEWTYLE and District Horticultural Society held their 86th annual show and exhibition on Saturday when trophies and awards were handed over by Lady MacGregor of MacGregor, Bannatyne House, Newtyle, aka Fiona Armstrong, well known TV journalist and newscaster.
The best in show was won by Hamish Lamond, Coupar Angus, with a Mrs McLauchlan tube root begonia.In the WRI section the shield for most points in homecraft and floral art went to Silvie and Ruthven, for the second successive year.
After judging in the morning, the show was opened by Lady MacGregor, who was presented with a floral arrangement by Ava Divers, aged four.
Pot plants, cut flowers, vegetables, and fruit exhibits were staged in Wharncliffe Hall, with baking, confectionery, preserves, craft, and junior section exhibits in the British Legion Hall
.Show manager was again Hamish Lamond, who said entries were very good considering the weather conditions this year.
The judges said the entries were again of a very high standard.Judges were Mr Don Shaw, Forfar (pot plants, cut flowers); Mr Les Craib, Forfar (fruit, vegetables); Mrs M. Wallace, Scone (floral art); Mrs K. Raith, St Madoes (baking); Cathy Munro, Kirriemuir (confectionery); Lynn McNaughton, Muirhead (preserves); Mrs B. Graham, Perth (craft); Mrs A. Tildesley and Mrs B. Cocker (junior section).The agm and payment of prize money will be held in the Legion Hall, Newtyle, on Monday, October 8, at 7.30pm.
