SPONSORSHIP from butchers, bakers and candlestick makers would be welcomed for a barbecue to be held in Meigle as part of a fund-raising head shave in aid of Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre in Ninewells Hospital.
Arlene Breen, who lives in Meigle but works in Blairgowrie, is to take part in the Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre Night Hike in Glasgow on September 7. She will be accompanied by her daughter Lucy who is 12 years old and a pupil at Blairgowrie High, as well as her mother Liz Sturrock and a friend Caroline Mitchell, who are both Newtyle Hikers.
“In preparation for this Night Hike I am to have my head shaved by Scott Thomson, also known as Marvel the Barber in Coupar Angus,” said Arlene.
“So far this year I know of at least three people who have been diagnosed with some form of cancer, so I have decided to do something to help promote the wonderful work which Maggie’s Centre do,” said Arlene.
“This is a worthwhile cause and as so many people are touched by this terrible disease, I am looking for as much support as I can get.
“The head shave is to take place at my home on the evening of Friday, August 3, my 21st birthday! I hope to hold a barbecue as well, so we would greatly appreciate donations from some wonderful local butchers and bakers - and indeed, candlestick makers to give the evening a romantic atmosphere.
“Anyone who would like to contribute can contact me on 01828 640014.
“I am also hoping to get a small video taken of the head shave and have this placed on my Facebook once the event has taken place.”
Arlene works as rental properties manager with A and R Robertson and Black, solicitors and estate agents, Blairgowrie.
