A FORMER soldier kept 16 live rounds of ammunition as a souvenir at his former home in Bridge of Cally after he was medically discharged from the Army.
But police were tipped off and obtained a search warrant for his house in Heathery Haugh.
And when officers went there, they recovered a magazine containing the bullets.
The discovery led to Scott Fletcher Douglas (22), now of Menzieshill, Dundee, being fined £400 at Perth Sheriff Court.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis ordered the ammunition to be forfeited.
He admitted that he didn’t have a Firearms Certificate covering the possession of the rounds on November 12 last year.
Solicitor Linda Clark said that the accused had been discharged from the Army after two years on medical grounds.
“He was allowed to retain part of his kit but clearly not the items found in his possession. Information from a third party came to the attention of the police....and he fully co-operated.”
