Blairgowrie Stride For Life group raise money for Children in Need

STRIDE for Life walkers turned their regular walk on Wednesday into a fund-raising event and raised nearly £700 for Children in Need.

“What a brilliant day,” said organiser Sue Cole.

“The sun shone and the rain stayed away for the 32 members of the Wednesday Stride for Life Walking Group who completed their challenge of a lifetime to climb the Munro, Carn Aosda, which is 917 metres.

“We raised some £683 for the BBC Children in Need Appeal, which is not bad considering the average age of the group was 65.

“We hope to raise the total to £1000 with the help of donations from businesses and individuals.

“Wednesday walks are usually of short duration low-level, sometimes urban walks, and are intended as starter and more social activities.

“They are designed to allow people the opportunity to get fitter prior to undertaking more serious and extended walks in more remote countryside as they wish.

“As well as walking and talking there are refreshments afterwards,” Sue added.

If you are new to East Perthshire these walks are an ideal way of finding out about the area and meeting new friends. This is a programme run by volunteers from the  Blairgowrie and District Next Steps (http://www.badns.org) Walking Group, assisted by Strathmore and the Glens Rural Partnership, a partnership approach to promote walking in our area.
