Blairgowrie couples climb Cairngorms for Barnardos

TWO Blairgowrie couples have got together to attempt the Cairngorm Challenge next year.

The brave folks are Gordon and Carla Thomson and Wilf Carr and his wife Mandy, who runs Just for Gent’s Barbers at 42 High Street, Blairgowrie.

Mandy explained that the Challenge has various levels:

Bronze – Walk up Cairngorm Mountain, nine miles.

Silver – Walk up Cairngorm Mountain and a 21-mile off-road mountain bike ride.

Gold – Walk up Cairngorm Mountain, a 12-mile walk around Loch Morlich, and 36-mile off-road mountain bike ride.

“Each person aims to raise £400 which will all go to the very worthy cause of Barnardos,” said Mandy.

“Although the fund-raising initially seemed rather daunting we are now full of enthusiasm.

“In November we are taking part in the Glen Clova half-marathon which has already given us a healthy start in sponsorship.

“We have come up with other ideas, one of which is a Christmas raffle, and we have been very fortunate to have received many vouchers and gifts from local people and businesses. Blairgowrie is showing a real community spirit.

“Each raffle ticket costs £1 and prizes vary from rounds of golf to meals, beauty treatments, champagne lunches, and many more. The tickets from Just For Gent’s.”
