Veterans in top gear

RURAL Perthshire is the venue this weekend for a rally by the Scottish Section of the Veteran Cycle Club.

They are promoting a series of events centred on Burrelton on Saturday and Dunkeld on Sunday.

Burrelton Village Hall is the venue on Saturday (July 4) where a display in excess of 30 bicycles, dating from an 1869 St Fergus to a 2001 Hetchins Magnum Opus de luxe, will be on show to the public.

To celebrate The Year of The Homecoming a special section has been devoted to Scottish built machines, featuring cycles which were world renowned during the golden years of cycling, 1940s to 1980s.

There will also be numerous tables of collectable cycle related equipment surplus to members' requirements for sale.

For the more energetic there will be the opportunity to experience a ride on an 1885 54 inch Victor within the confines of the car park.

To defray expenses, entrance to the hall will be £1 and doors will be open to the public at 11am.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served throughout the day until the event closes at 3pm.

On Sunday morning (July 5) the club will muster in Dunkeld for a leisurely run of around 25 miles exploring the highways and byways of this beautiful part of Perthshire.

The weekend will close with the customary club barbeque in Birnam.
