Drink led to headbutt

DURING a drink-fuelled argument with his partner, a Perthshire man headbutted her on the face, causing her nose to bleed, Perth Sheriff Court was told.

Edwin Moore (50), of Smythe Street, Alyth, had his sentence deferred until September 9 – and he was ordered to be of good behaviour until then.

He admitted assaulting Elaine Springle in their house in Smythe Street on June 6.

Solicitor Rosie Scott said that they both had taken too much to drink.

He had “little recollection” of what had taken place, other than they had an argument.

“He very much regrets this,” added the lawyer.

“They normally get on well together.

“She had been accusing him over a relationship several years ago.”

The Sheriff told Moore that he had pled guilty to what appeared to have been a “particularly nasty assault.”

He had a previous conviction for a similar offence but what had been said on his behalf gave the Sheriff “some hope” that the incident had been out of character.
