The weather outside may have been atrocious but the Scrap Happy Theatre Company presented another fantastic show the weekend before Christmas.
The show, directed by Claire Bee, was at Blairgowrie Community Campus and featured all members of the group in two well-attended performances.
The whole group opened the shows with an interpretation of Take That’s Never Forget before the youngsters took to the stage for their performance of The Gruffalo’s Child.
It was a funny and entertaining show with great performances from everyone involved, particularly Flora McGregor as the Gruffalo’s Child, and Jodie Findlay as the mouse and Finlay Trotter as the Gruffalo whose roles provided some of the biggest laughs.
A beautiful performance of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah showcased some of the fantastic voices in the group as well as some very talented dancers.
There was a change in mood with an up-tempo techno version of the Christmas classic, Little Drummer Boy followed by We Love to Boogie.
A quick change of costume saw the older boys perform When I Was Single to the audience’s great amusement, while many a knowing smile was shared between couples in the audience during Grumpy Old Man.
Following the interval there was more performance dance and music, highlights being When Santa got Stuck up the Chimney and Jingle Bell Rock.
One of the other highlights of the evening was A Jolly Interlude, which saw assistant director James Beck take on the part of the perennially depressed Rev. I M Jolly.
It wasn’t very jolly but it was very, very funny and James Beck played the part well.
Throughout the evening, it was great to see the younger children supported by the older kids - both metaphorically and literally in many of the performances.
The family atmosphere was further enhanced by the very appreciative audience of parents, grandparents and friends.
The music and lighting was used to good effect, adding to the drama of the acting, singing and dancing on display in what was a great ensemble performance.
Organisers praised the kids for their talent, hard work and commitment and would like to thank parents, friends and families for all their ongoing support through-out the year.
